STUDIO JOB MAD HOUSE
22 MARCH - 21 AUGUST 2016
MAD MUSEUM OF ARTS AND DESIGN, NEW YORK

Studio Job MAD HOUSE will be the first American solo exhibition of the work of collaborators Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel, who established their atelier, Studio Job, in Antwerp in 2000.

Since then, they have developed a distinctive body of highly expressive and opulent work, characterized by pattern, ornament, humor, and historical, sociocultural, and personal narrative.

The interdisciplinary nature of Studio Job’s œuvre makes it difficult to categorize. Their work is deliberately provocative and unconventional, giving them the reputation of ‘enfants terribles’ of the art and design world.

This exhibition will feature a variety of media and forms, including art objects, furniture, sculpture, lighting, interiors, and wall and floor coverings in an immersive installation conceived by the artists uniquely for MAD.

STUDIO JOB: MONKEY BUSINESS

The exhibition is also the opportunity to unveil their second book Monkey Business, offering a look at their work tracing the past five years of their shared creative vision.

Beautifully produced with stunning photographs, this beautiful tome showcases examples of furnishings, sculptures, exhibitions, commissioned interiors, and even the designers’ own home.

With design inspired by illuminated manuscripts and more than 200 sketches, concept renderings, and photographs, Studio Job: Monkey Business is the ultimate expression of two of the most influential designers working today.

With contributions by Job Smeets, Glenn Adamson & Ronald Labaco, respectively director and curator at MAD Museum and Loïc Le Gaillard & Julien Lombrail, co-founders of Carpenters Workshop Gallery.

CARPENTERS WORKSHOP GALLERY
COLLECTING DESIGN

Carpenters Workshop Gallery transcends classical borders in terms of art and design. Its proposal stands just at the intersection of these two universes: reaching precisely a symbiosis of art and design.

Carpenters Workshop Gallery produces and exhibits functional sculptures by international rising and already established artists and designers going outside their traditional territories of expression.

The gallery is actively involved in the research and production of the limited edition works exhibited. The choices are guided by the research of an emotional, artistic and historical relevance; a relevance that appears as an evidence.
