Almost two years passed since her last exhibition in Paris, and Oda Jaune is reinvesting the capital city transformed by pandemic with a singular exhibition, presenting oil paints, watercolors and for the very first time, a full-size hologram. This exhibition is built around a reflection on metaphysic. As the artist says, “in result to this pandemic year, I am fascinated about nature and human being adaptation and transformation”.

In a few decades, the artist has developed a strange and poetic universe. She has built a singular body of work as sweat and naïve as violent and erotic.

Oda Jaune went through this troubled year and and came out inspired, with full of interrogations. She transforms these reflections in a raw and voluptuous artwork through a masterful canvas of ten meters. On its surface, a Tree of Life seems to extend its full length. Gently brushing the land, the roots shows a joyful chaos, where we can observe a fuchsia dog-shaped balloon, a heart still alive, an emoji face, a young boy, trapped in his own placenta, barely hatched buds, a young bird, to finally give way to a floating peak in the cosmic confines. Almost cathartic, the Tree questions the idea of human being transformation, the desire to regain the former life, nature and its ability to regain control over a fractured society.

The exhibition also unveils some small canvas, watercolors, wax on canvas and for the very first time, in the basement, a majestic full-size hologram, thrown in the dark.
Between painting and sculpting, this Tree of Life, in a disturbing realism, invites to question the fragile limit between life and death, reality and fantasy.

Born in 1979 in Sofia, Bulgaria, Oda Jaune has lived and worked in Paris since 2008. The artist uses her work to portray a tormented yet deeply poetical world. In it, images that are tender, naive and violent, occasionally erotic and funny, are mingled together as Jaune continues her frank exploration of a subconscious freed from convention. Her paintings are unsettling, putting the viewer in a position where abandon is the only option and inhibition is futile.
