Photo12 Galerie PRESENTS "ROLLING STONES / BACKSTAGE" BY GERED MANKOWITZ
Until 22 July, the Photo12 gallery will give a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Rolling Stones on tour, presenting unseen shots by photographer Gered Mankowitz.
The celebrated British photographer has re-visited his legendary archive to exhibit the best, accompanied by the launch of a new limited edition book.
Gered Mankowitz lived within the entourage of the Stones from 1965 to 1967. His collection of photographs offer a very personal look at the group’s members during this period when they became international stars. He became a real member of the group with unlimited access to their lives on and off the stage.
It was family friend, Peter Sellers, who encouraged the young Gered Mankowitz to become a photographer. At the age of 18 he was presented to the Stones by their manager, Andrew Lood Oldham, following a session Marianne Faithfull, who Oldham also managed.
