Three years after the exhibition Préludes et après-ludes, Valerio Adami presents a new exhibition at Galerie Templon from October 27th until December 29th 2007. The exhibition gathers 30 paintings and drawings executed since 2005.

Valerio Adami continues to explore the theme of Melancholy which he has developped over the past years.

Couples, musicians, mythical or religious characters are set in a closed-off universe and express the vanity of human condition, which artistic creation tries to compensate.

In a very recognizable way, Adami uses very precise pencil drawings to structure his canvasses with he erases until they give the paintings an extreme sobriety. By doing so, Adami offers a strong tool to reflect on the allegory or definition of space.

The catalogue presents an « abstract poem for Valerio » by Michel Deguy along with a text by Pascal Guignard, winner of the Goncourt Prize in 2002, inspired by the artist’s work. In addition, a manuscript by Adami which explains the title of the exhibition, Jusqu’ici and photographs taken in his studio give a very intimate feel to the book.

Valerio Adami was born in Bologna in 1935. Starting in 1958, he travels and lives in different European cities, the United States, Latin America and India.

He has exhibited his work at the Jewish Museum in New York, the Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, but also in Mexico, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Buenos Aires.

Valerio Adami is currently working on creating a Foundation devoted to drawing : « The drawing Institute –  Fondo Adami » in Meina, Italy. In 2006, the Musée d’Art Contemporain of Lisboa presented the first retrospective on his work and a large exhibition is being prepared at the Pomodoro Foundation in Milan for 2009.

This catalogue is distributed by our partner PARIS MUSÉES in 300 bookstores in France, including 50 specialized with an Art section.

The catalogue will be listed in over forty (40) professional databases and online bookstores, including Fnac, Amazon and Dilicom. The catalogue will also be distributed in Europe, North America, Canada and Eastern Europe.
