Galerie Christian Berst Art Brut CELEBRATES 15 YEARS WITH THE INAUGURATION OF A NEW SPACE - THE BRIDGE, DEDICATED TO A DIALOGUE ART BRUT / CONTEMPORARY ART
15 years and a new space! To mark this occasion the gallery will open a second space, across from the gallery, named The Bridge.
This new space will serve as a physical and intellectual bridge between art brut and other categories of art by inviting guest curators to express their own vision of this fruitful dialogue.
Under the auspices of a unifying theme, guest curators will be invited seven times a year to display the works of artists from the gallery alongside those drawn from elsewhere. The Bridge’s exhibition dates will mirror those of the main gallery, and in the same spirit, will be accompanied by a bilingual publication.
The gallery whose focus remains on both the decompartmentalization of the genre, while calling into question the specificities of what we call art brut, continues to work in close collaboration with independent curators including Jean-Hubert Martin, Gaël Charbau, and Matali Crasset, among others.
To date, the gallery has published the writings of eighty curators from the contemporary art world, a reality that has not only allowed art brut to emerge from its insularity, but created a new platform for reflection and openness to the larger art world.
The book, abundantly illustrated, will also be an opportunity for Christian Berst to shed light on the definition of this art, of which he is now a recognised expert, through a cross chronology of the gallery's highlights. Among them, events that have marked the growing interest of institutions and actors in contemporary art for Art Brut: acquisitions by public and private collections, exhibitions throughout the world (Venice Biennale, National Museums, International Fairs...).
