Galerie Eric Mouchet in Paris presents the exhibition We Are One by Alexander Gorlizki 11 December 2014 until 24 January 2015.

The paintings of Alexander Gorlizki demonstrate the fruit of his fertile imagination due to his contact with the Indian, as well as Western iconography that constitutes his visual culture.

His artworks both absurd and fascinating, reference embroidery as much as the art of topiary, the textile patterns of South-East Asia or the grand masters of photography of the 20th century, alongside Victorian tool catalogues and of course the pictorial tradition of the Indian miniature.

Conceived by Gorlizski in his studio in Brooklyn, New York some of these artworks were worked on during several years, due to trips back and forth between Jaipur and New York.

It was on observing that the master of painting in Jaipur was not employed just to produce copies of the ancient miniatures for tourists, that Gorlizki patiently convinced the master Riyaz Uddon to re-connect with the creation of works and then a collaboration was established between the two artists. Gorlizki opened his studio in Jaipur in 1997.

Born in London in 1967, Alexander Gorlizki lives and works in New York. Introduced to Indian culture at a young age he regularly showed enthusiasm for Mughal art, drawing from a discovery of the meeting of the Muslim and Indian worlds in the 16th century. Today, Gorlizki and Uddin still work together, between New York and Jaipur where the Indian studio has enriched the careers of a dozen artists.

Supported by a high level of quality and expertise, Galerie Eric Mouchet displays an eclectic and demanding programme, under the influence of its founder Eric Mouchet, an expert in graphic arts for the Appeal Court of Paris and a specialist of Le Corbusier’s drawing work.
