GUILTY PLEASURES: ELLEN VON UNWERTH’S EXHIBITION MARKING THE REOPENING OF LA HUNE
To mark its reopening on Wednesday 14th November 2018, La Hune, a great cultural symbol of the Saint-Germain district since 1949, is honoured to present the highly colourful – and black and white – work of photographer Ellen von Unwerth.
For over thirty years Ellen von Unwerth has delivered a vision of sensual, free women. Implicitly from each of her photographs exudes an authentic distance from traditional codes, an obvious joy at being released from the standard straitjacket of nudity, guided by matchless energy and clearly identifiable grain and framing. This exhibition is an ode to synaesthesia, an invitation to frivolity, imprinted with true artistic mastery.
After nearly a year of restoration work to rebuild this historic address following a fire last November, La Hune still maintains the same ambition: to defend its unique mission in photography.
With various spaces dedicated to art publishing, photography and meetings between the public and artists, La Hune will offer a new, increasingly rich and dynamic schedule, playing its part in making Paris the world capital of photography.
La Hune seeks to reveal emotions, thus preserving the heritage of the two traditions from which it was created: the symbiosis of books and prints, and the popularity of photography.
