The Institut des cultures d'Islam of Paris invites you to discover the exhibition "Croyances" from your own home
Visit the exhibition "Croyances: faire et défaire l'invisible" ("Beliefs: make and break the invisible") without having to leave your house! Explore the spaces of the Institut des Cultures d'Islam and discover the works of sixteen photographers and videographers.
Far from stereotypical narratives, sixteen photographers and videographers are taking a poetic, critical and even offbeat approach to the question surrounding "faith": its conventions, practices and representations.
Their works jump between fiction and reality, sketching out faith in motion, imagining their connection and evolutions through an 'archipelagic thought process'.
They hijack the embodiment of religious authority in order to resist dominating models, they inscribe voodoo worship in the memory of slavery, they bring pilgrims' devotion and individual resilience closer together, they transform traditional rites to suit the digital age, and they capture the vibrations of trance and the mysteries of bewitchment.
