Galerie Cécile Fakhoury at 1-54 Paris hosted by Christie's with monumental work by romeo mivekannin 20 to 23 Jan. 2021
Galerie Cécile Fakhoury (Abidjan, Dakar, Paris) is participating in the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair which will take place for the first time in Paris at Christie's, avenue Matignon. 1-54 will host 20 international galleries presenting the work of contemporary artists from Africa and its diaspora, at Christie's Paris from 20 to 23 January 2021.
The gallery will present the works of five artists of different generations and complementary techniques: François-Xavier Gbré, Jems Koko Bi, Roméo Mivekannin, Cheikh Ndiaye and Ouattara Watts.
Following the postponement of the 2021 Marrakech edition due to COVID-related challenges, 1-54 has decided to take this unique opportunity to advance beyond its established model and partner with Christie’s to hold a new physical fair in Paris.
This special edition will not only welcome galleries from across Africa and Europe, but also 1-54 Forum, the fair’s multi-disciplinary programme of talks, screenings, performances, workshops and readings.
The all-digital programme will be curated by Le 18, a multi-disciplinary art space in the Marrakech medina, and will see some events take place during the Paris fair followed by more throughout the month of February.
Galerie Cécile Fakhoury opened its doors in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in September 2012. In May 2018 the gallery inaugurated a second space in Dakar, Senegal and a showroom in Paris. In March 2020 the gallery opened its Project Space dedicated to a forward-looking exhibition programme.
The gallery aims to promote contemporary art in Africa. It offers visibility to creativity and contemporary artistic diversity in Africa through its programming of solo shows and group exhibitions, participation in international art fairs and biennales, and through its collaboration with foreign galleries.
