THE FIRST MONOGRAPH ON PAINTER EMMANUEL BARCILON CREATED BY COMMUNIC'ART
Born in 1967, Emmanuel Barcilon received his diploma from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Cergy. Since the end of the 1990s, he has been exhibiting regularly in galleries and contemporary art centers in Europe and mainly in France.
This first catalogue gathers twenty paintings realised between 2005 and 2007.
Their specificity lies in the treatment of surface and colours which plays with nuances of opacity and transparency.
Emmanuel Barcilon covers his canvasses with pigmented varnish, adds marks to it and sands it down to reveal the previous drawing. This operation is then repeated several times until the varnish becomes lacquered and reflects the spectator.
The catalogue translates this very specific texture by using a strong varnish. Colours, shapes, textures, transparencies, graphic inventions, tinted areas, writings, drawings inhabit the paintings with spontaneity.
Barcilon’s pictorial intent gets animated between spaces of pure colour, abstract drawings and almost unreadable writings.
This monograph is nourrished by texts by three critics and art historians : Lionel Dax, writer and art historian, teaches semiology and aesthetics. Alexandra Fau, journalist for various art magazines and independant curator. Anne Malherbe is a journalist and editor of Artivi, a WebTV on art.
