Amélie Chassary, Fantastic Flower Series, 2024, 15 x 20 cm, Fine Art prints on Hahnemühle Baryta paper & extra-fine gouaches

On the occasion of "Rendez-vous aux jardins," an initiative by 46 St Paul Gallery, on Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Association des Amis du Musée d'Art Naïf Anatole Jakovsky is presenting an original artistic encounter between Amélie Chassary and Séraphine Louis, at the Musée international d'Art Naïf Anatole Jakovsky in Nice.

Three works by Amélie Chassary will be presented in dialogue with those of Séraphine Louis, creating a shared perspective around the floral motif and the plant world. Between photography, painting, and poetry, this sensitive encounter reveals deep resonances between two worlds where nature, transfigured, becomes a vibrant language, both intimate and universal.

Through her series Fantastic Flowers, Amélie Chassary develops a body of work in which photography and painting are closely intertwined, giving rise to bouquets in constant metamorphosis. Starting from images rooted in reality, the artist intervenes through painting to transform their structure, amplify their colors, and bring forth exuberant, sometimes hybrid forms. The flowers thus leave behind their naturalistic dimension to become vehicles of a free imagination, situated between observation and invention. This work resonates particularly with the world of Séraphine Louis (known as Séraphine de Senlis, 1864-1942), a French painter counted among the "Modern Primitives" brought together by Wilhelm Uhde.

As with Séraphine Louis, nature is not simply depicted but transfigured through an inner vision. The bouquets become spaces of proliferation, dense and vibrant compositions in which color and form express a sensitive, almost spiritual intensity. However, where Séraphine Louis invents her motifs through an autonomous impulse, Amélie Chassary situates her gesture within a dialogue with photographic reality, which she alters and transcends.

Presented as part of "Rendez-vous aux jardins," these works find a natural continuation. Through their exuberance and their capacity to reinvent the plant world, they echo the very spirit of this event, which celebrates the richness, diversity, and poetry of the plant world. Amélie Chassary's work thus engages in a threefold dialogue: with the history of painting through Séraphine Louis, with reality as captured through photography, and with the living landscape of the garden. The bouquet becomes a space of passage, a place of transformation where nature, freed from its limits, reinvents itself and invites the eye into an expanded experience of the plant world.
