Galerie Cécile Fakhoury (Abidjan, Dakar, Paris) will be participating at ICTAF - Investec Cape Town Art Fair – in Cape Town (South Africa) from February 13 to 16 2020, where it will present the work of the Ivorian-French photographer François-Xavier Gbré in solo show.

Participating in this major event every year since 2016, the gallery presents the work of its South African artists, at the heart of one of the most active artistic scenes on the African continent.

This year, the gallery will be presenting a series of photographs taken by François-Xavier Gbré, which focus mainly on a rapidly evolving Côte d'Ivoire. Since 2011 and the end of the post-electoral crisis, the entire country has been rebuilt with spectacular infrastructures and a redefinition of the individual and collective landscape, but it is also a new page in the social history of the country that the artist captures, with the destruction of informal neighborhoods and the displacement of populations. The artist will take over the stand to create a unique photographic installation, testifying to the formal radicality and the poetic power of his work, between historical research, socio-political testimony and landscape photography.

Galerie Cécile Fakhoury opened its doors in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, in September 2012. In spring 2018, it inaugurated a new space in Dakar, Senegal, and a showroom in Paris, France. The gallery works to promote contemporary art on the African continent. It offers visibility to creativity and contemporary artistic diversity in Africa through its programming of monographic and collective exhibitions, but also through its participation in international fairs and biennials and through its collaborations with galleries abroad.
