Galerie Cécile Fakhoury, a client of Communic'Art, has the pleasure of announcing Patrimoine, an exhibition of the Ivorian artist Jems Koko Bi which will take place from 13 March to 5 June, 2021 in Abidjan.
Visitors will encounter monumental sculptures whose strength lies in the precariousness of balance and the radicality of form, but also an oeuvre of wood engraving that Jems Koko Bi has been developing for several years.
Which events, which figures are part of the collective narrative and how could we artistically express the latter today? Among other concepts, Jems Koko Bi questions the remembrance, both individual and collective, as well as the ways to pay tribute to it. The exhibition alludes to recent history events, from the passing of Coupé-décalé national icon DJ Arafat to the Grand-Bassam attacks.
Jems Koko Bi, who lives between Abidjan and Essen, has a view that is both distanced and deeply involved on the contemporary history of his birth country, creating in the exhibition a symbolic and visual patrimony.
