Carpenters Workshop Gallery PARTICIPATES IN DESIGN MIAMI/ 2015 FOR THE 6TH YEAR
DESIGN MIAMI/ 2015
FROM 2 TO 6 DECEMBER
BOOTH G12
Carpenters Workshop Gallery will participate in Design Miami/ 2015.
It will be the gallery’s 6th year at the fair and the occasion to present an ensemble of works by Atelier Van Lieshout, Sebastian Brajkovic, Nacho Carbonell, Wendell Castle, Johanna Grawunder, Stuart Haygarth, Frederik Molenschot, Mathieu Lehanneur, Random International, Yinka Shonibare MBE, Studio Drift and Studio Job.
Renowned American artist, Wendell Castle will unveil a new piece, ‘Back to Earth’, in bronze. With a career spanning more than five decades, this latest sculpture is a modern take on the artist’s earlier works, as he casts a critical eye toward the first decade of his own artistic production.
An Artist known for her creative use of LED, Johanna Grawunder will showcase ‘Mini Half Pipe’ and ‘Prism’.
French designer Mathieu Lehanneur will be presenting a new work in his ‘S.M.O.K.E’ series. A hand-blown glass lighting sculpture which stands tall on a solid pink onyx column, evocative of a volcanic eruption.
Carpenters Workshop Gallery will exhibit a wide range of lighting sculptures at this year’s fair. ‘CL-Sinuosity 2’ by Frederik Molenschot uses lights as a metaphorical expression of the metropolis’s incomparable energy.
The installation ‘Baby Swarm’ by Random International is an interactive piece that correlates movement patterns found in nature through light.
‘Fragile Future 3.11’ by Studio Drift combines both nature and technology, using real individual dandelion seedheads connected to LED lights and constructed in bronze modular sections.
Also, Nacho Carbonell, an artist who has recently joined the gallery will showcase works from his ‘Cocoon series’. It demonstrates the evolution of the Spanish artist’s original mesh technique.
Anglo-Nigerian artist, Yinka Shonibare MBE’s gravity-defying work ‘Windy Chair’, will be on the booth. Derived from the artist’s work ‘Nelson’s Ship in a Bottle’, which was created for the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square London.
Two pieces by Sebastian Brajkovic will be displayed, comparing his new ‘Vanishing Point’ series with his older ‘Lathe’ works.
The gallery will also exhibit a selection of bronze sculptures on the booth. Artistic duo Studio Job will show three pieces from its ‘Pussy Cat’ series plus ‘Wrecking Ball’, showing the subtle humour and intricate detail that is a monument to both creation and destruction.
Last, but by no means not least Dutch artist Atelier Van Lieshout will show bronze organically shaped lamp sculptures, presenting a sensual and ironic realism: ‘Pappamamma Lamp’, ‘The Caretaker’ and ‘Kiss Lamp’, all recently exhibted at Carpenters Workshop Gallery London | Mayfair as part of a solo show entitled ‘Bronze’.
