CÉDRIC MORISSET appointed global DIRECTOR OF Carpenters Workshop Gallery
As part of its strategy to support its international expansion, such as its New York gallery opening in November, Carpenters Workshop Gallery has announced the appointment of Cédric Morisset as Global Director.
Often described as a ‘design guru’ by those in the business, Cédric Morisset has over 15 years of experience in the field ranging from curatorship, to consultancy, to journalism.
On the new appointment, Julien Lombrail, co-founder of Carpenters Workshop Gallery said, “Cédric Morisset will be a fantastic addition to the team, we appreciate his fresh perspective on the running of the gallery and most of all his enthusiasm and energy, we will definitely learn a lot from each other”.
Cédric Morisset added, “Being in the design field for such a long time, I already knew the gallery well and am really excited about being involved with the future direction Carpenters Workshop Gallery is going in”.
Previously head of the Design Department at Piasa Auction House, Paris, Cédric Morisset made the move to Carpenters Workshop Gallery in order to broaden his international gallery experience.
He began his career focused on contemporary design, using his knowledge in the field to offer consultancy to luxury brands with clients including Christian Dior perfume, L’Oreal, Veuve Clicquot and Paco Rabanne, Cedric Morisset has also shared this expertise through talks at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Indianapolis Museum of Arts and Design Miami.
Cédric Morisset is also well-known for his time as a design editor and critic, and has regularly contributed to titles such as Vogue Brazil, Wallpaper, Le Figaro, Architectural Digest and written for several books.
His curatorial experience includes work on exhibitions dedicated to French and Dutch contemporary design in galleries and public spaces around the world.
CARPENTERS WORKSHOP GALLERY
Carpenters Workshop Gallery transcends classical borders in terms of art and design. Its proposal stands just at the intersection of these two universes: reaching precisely a symbiosis of art and design.
Carpenters Workshop Gallery produces and exhibits functional sculptures by international rising and already established artists and designers going outside their traditional territories of expression. The gallery is actively involved in the research and production of the limited edition works exhibited. The choices are guided by the research of an emotional, artistic and historical relevance; a relevance that appears as an evidence.
The gallery relies on the partnership of childhood friends, Julien Lombrail & Loic Le Gaillard. They first opened a space in London’s Chelsea in 2006 in a former carpenter’s workshop; they then followed with a second space in Mayfair in 2008. The opening of a 600 m2 space in Paris in 2011 in the heart of Le Marais district, an address steeped in history as it was previously occupied by the Galerie de France for several decades, was a return to their roots.
2015 marks a major turning point for Carpenters Workshop Gallery with the opening of Carpenters Workshop | Roissy, a 8,000 m2 space unique globally, dedicated to research dedicated to artistic research and development, bringing together the elite of artisans, an homage to the heritage to French ‘Arts Décoratifs’.
Carpenters Workshop Gallery | New York is the lastest step in the gallery’s remarkable development. This new space confirms today the leadership and dominant position of the gallery in the international territory of art and design.
