BOOTH G24
For its 8th participation in DESIGN/ MIAMI BASEL, Carpenters Workshop Gallery will showcase new pieces by Nacho Carbonell, Ingrid Donat, Studio Drift and Studio Job, as well as iconic artworks by Maarten Baas, Wendell Castle, Vincent Dubourg, Marc Newson, Rick Owens, Robert Stadler, Charles Trevelyan and Franz West.
Carpenters Workshop Gallery is proud to exhibit for the first time two of Nacho Carbonell’s 'Table Cocoon' works. Nacho Carbonell is a Spanish designer, newly represented by the gallery, whose artistic approach to design questions the relationships of the object to the living and organic. French designer Vincent Dubourg, well-known for his hybrid and deconstructed works, will present 'Bhanga Bronze'.
Belgian-Dutch duo Studio Job, distinguished by its collapsing reinterpretations of world famous monuments, will unveil their new 'Train Crash Table' alongside the spectacular 'Robber Baron Buffet' (see image). Ingrid Donat, influenced by Art Déco, will propose 'Tribal', a new monumental dining table, surrounded by three 'Uncle Chairs' by renowned Austrian artist Franz West.
Dutch designer Maarten Baas will present 'Grandfather Clock', a piece where the clock hands come alive through video, interrogating the concept of time and its incarnation, between efficiency and ephemerality. The interactive and poetic 'Fly Light' chandelier made of glass and wires by dutch artists from Studio Drift, and the 'Tripartite (Grey)' lamp by Australian Charles Trevelyan will illuminate the space.
This reach ensemble will be completed by 'Veiled in a Dream', a sculptural bronze seat by American master Wendell Castle and the 'Orgone Chair', an iconic piece by Australian designer Marc Newson. An exclusive offering that Carpenters Workshop Gallery has reserved for its 10th anniversary edition of DESIGN/MIAMI BASEL.
DESIGN AT LARGE
ATELIER VAN LIESHOUT ‘THE ORIGINAL DWELLING’
BOOTH DAL3
Carpenters Workshop Gallery will participate this year in DESIGN AT LARGE, a section of the fair curated by André Balazs with 'The Original Dwelling', a monumental sculpture by Atelier Van Lieshout.
This installation of great stature (9 x 6 x 2.6 m), inspired by troglodyte dwellings and mid century avant-garde architecture, is made up of a bedroom, a play area, a bar and a lounge. It is an evocation of humankind’s original habitat. The appearance of the pavilion is dictated by its interior spaces, which appear to be carved into stone.
It is at the same time contemporary, avant-garde, idealistic, as well a tribal and primitive, making it 'the original dwelling' in every sense of the word.
CARPENTERS WORKSHOP GALLERY
COLLECTING DESIGN
Carpenters Workshop Gallery transcends classical borders in terms of art and design. Its proposal stands just at the intersection of these two universes: reaching precisely a symbiosis of art and design.
Carpenters Workshop Gallery produces and exhibits functional sculptures by international rising and already established artists and designers going outside their traditional territories of expression.
The gallery is actively involved in the research and production of the limited edition works exhibited. The choices are guided by the research of an emotional, artistic and historical relevance; a relevance that appears as an evidence.
